DAY RIDEJANUARY 24, 2012On Tuesday, January 24th, we took another Day Ride. We woke to blue skies with a temperature around 38 degrees. We got ready to ride and part of that routine is giving the kids a parting cookie.
We left our home in North Knoxville around 10am and headed south on Chapman Highway, riding through Sevierville. We continued south on 441 and stopped to take photos of the beautiful mountain landscape.
Here's a cool vintage bus parked where we stopped.
We got back on the bikes and continued onto Chestnut Hill where we stopped at Bush's Family Cafe for lunch. We've eaten here before. The folks are super friendly and the food is exceptional.
This Cafe is operated by the Bush's Baked Bean Company. The large processing plant is just across the street and smells like fiber and beans. The whole area is noticeably spotless. In addition to the Cafe, there is a general store and museum at the visitor center. If you haven't gone through the museum and store, consider dropping by the next time you're in Chestnut Hill. It's a great slice of history.
After our visit, we got back on 92 and headed toward Dandridge. We stopped off at the landing for a few photos before reaching Dandridge.
We got back on the bikes and rode through Dandridge, then onto Jefferson City and then stopped briefly at Cherokee Dam.
After getting back on 92, we headed to see our motorcycle painter, David Hurst at his shop- Slide Effects. We are customizing a couple of bikes to sell and David had one of the paints jobs ready, so we stopped in to take a look. As always, the paint is beautiful and we hope to have the bike finished and on our floor in a couple of weeks. Here's Jeff talking with David outside of his shop.
After visiting with David, we hopped back on our bikes and took 92 to Rutledge and then took 11W back to Knoxville. We got back home around 3pm and our total ride was 115 miles. For this ride, we both wore our Gerbing's heated gear along with our leather jackets and thermal lined chaps. We wore our pilot helmets with shield and neck warmers, along with our black leather Milwaukee boots. Our Gerbing's gear is attached to a temperature controller enabling us to regulate the heat throughout the day as the temperature changes. Return to Bike Ride page. |
